David Arne Grayes, 74, of Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, February 26, 2025 at the Trillium House while in the care of his loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.
Dave was born September 29, 1950 in Marquette to Arne and Katherine (Jacobson) Grayes and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1969. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Argall on October 18, 1975 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming. After graduation, Dave began his career with Cleveland Cliffs working underground at the Mather 'B' Mine. He retired as an operator from the Empire Mine with over 30 years of service with CCI.
Dave was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, picking blueberries in Sands Plains, gardening and canning. He was a Negaunee Miner sports fan and enjoyed attending and listening to games. Most importantly, Dave was a loving husband, father and grandpa to his favorite dogs: Otis, Tank and Nash.
Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Grayes; daughters: Katie (Kilen Marcotte) Grayes and Jolie (Matthew) Maddock, both of Negaunee; two nieces: Linda (Don) Bode and Sue (Cheryl) Vadnais-Jacobsen; and his canine companions, Tank and Nash. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Wilfred and Laime Argall; sister-in-law, Carol (James) Vadnais; and his best dog pal, Otis.
Dave's family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at The Trillium House, UP Home Health and Hospice, the Cancer Center of Marquette, special family friend, Laura St. Onge, and neighbors, Keith and Shelley, for the wonderful and compassionate care provided.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 pm until the time of memorial services at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, March 5th at Koskey Funeral Home. Rev. D. Michael Carriere will officiate. Interment will take place in the Negaunee Cemetery.
