With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David T. Hackett Jr., who left this world on September 10, 2025, just short of his 72nd birthday. Born on September 25, 1953, in Urbana, Ohio, David was the cherished son of David T. Hackett Sr. and Ann (Welsh) Hackett.
David's journey through life was marked by his deep connection to the land and animals. A proud graduate of London High School in 1971, he cultivated his love for agriculture and animal husbandry through 4H, where he excelled as a camp counselor and showman, showcasing Hereford cattle that earned the admiration of many. His educational pursuits took him from the University of Dayton, where he participated in the prestigious Pershing Rifles, to Ohio State ATI, where he immersed himself in agricultural research, ultimately earning his degree in large animal science.
Throughout his life, David shared his passion for animals as a talented horse trainer, guiding several winning horses to glory. He later contributed his expertise in agricultural research while working at McDorman Farms in South Charleston for over a decade. A devoted member of St. Patrick's Church in London, he embraced community life and the cherished values of service and fellowship.
David is survived by his beloved son, Spencer (Courtney Weller) Hackett, siblings: Mary Beth (Joy McFadden) Hackett, Barbara (Mike) Lynch, Bill Hackett, and John (Amy) Hackett. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Davey and Collene Hackett, and his extended family, including nieces and nephews David Lynch, Josh (Marlene) Hackett, Liz Lynch, Tyler Hackett, JT Hackett, and Joseph Hackett, alongside great-nieces and nephews Kimberlee, Reese, and Boden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael Hackett, as well as his great nephew, Kaiden Hackett.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate David's life and to share their memories and joy for a life well-lived. A gathering will take place at St. Patrick's Parish Center on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Church, where we will honor his legacy with love and remembrance. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
