David was educated in the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, graduating from Lafayette High School with the Class of 1975. David retired from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation after 30-plus years of service, serving alongside his good friend Carlton Morris.

He was also a devoted Washington Commanders football fan.

He is also preceded in death by his grandmother, Gussie Judkins; sister, Elnora Rhodell; brothers, Don Hailey and Darrin Hailey; nephew, Pierre Cotton; stepsisters, Janie Braxton and Joyce Braxton.

He leaves to cherish his memories with his sisters, Joan H. Crump, Brenda H. Black (Tony), Linda Hailey, and Cleo Hailey; brother Bryant Hailey (Denise); stepfather, Rev. George Marrow Sr., stepsisters, Roslin Braxton, Roselee Armstead (Phil), and Carolyn Cary (John); stepbrothers, Micheal Marrow (Cleveland) and George Marrow Jr.; aunts, Lois Jones and Theresa Piggott; uncle Louis Carter (Tywanna); devoted aunt Hazel Pierce; and a host of nieces and nephews.
