Farmington Funeral HomeDavid Clarence Halvorson, 84, of Farmington, NM, passed away August 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 10, 1941, in Bagley, MN, to Clarence and Lillian (Hopke) Halvorson.
Dave proudly served in the U.S. Air Force before settling in New Mexico, where he worked for Joe J. Maloof Company, retiring as manager of the Farmington Coors branch in 2000.
He lived a full and adventurous life, traveling, skiing, hiking, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors. He especially loved camping at Navajo Dam, golfing, and sharing stories with family and friends.
Dave was confirmed into the Lutheran Church on July 1,1956 and carried that faith as a steady foundation throughout his life. Dave attended Bagley High School and graduated in 1960. Dave enlisted in the Airforce after high school with his buddy Gary Severson.
Dave was known for his gentle heart, adventurous spirit, and the way he cared so deeply for those around him. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in NM and Patrick Air Force Base in FL. After his honorable discharge in 1965, he settled in Farmington, NM, where he began a long career with Joe J. Maloof Company, retiring in 2000 as manager of the Farmington Coors branch.
Dave lived with courage and strength, especially during his battle with large diffuse B cell lymphoma, which he faced with remarkable resilience for 4 years and 21 days. Even through the hardest days, he never lost his tenderness, humor, or love for those around him.
His life was also one of adventure and joy. His love for travel took him to more than 80 countries and six continents—riding camels in the Sahara Desert, marveling at elephants in Thailand, swimming the Great Barrier Reef, skiing across the U.S., and hiking Machu Picchu. He loved driving the mountain passes of Colorado, exploring old mining towns, fishing at Navajo Lake, and camping (especially at the Elks Rec Campground) with friends and family.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, traveling partner, and best friend of 40 years, Diane, his brother Donnie (Marilyn), his brother-in-law, Darrel (Nancy) Radford, stepchildren Danica Carman, Kim Martinez, Kris (Paula) Hart, and Korbi (Camie) Hart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Carol Halvorson, and brothers and sister-in-laws Doug & Sharon and Dale & Frances Halvorson.
Dave’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His life was one of courage, laughter, and love—and he leaves behind a legacy of strength, joy, and devotion to his family.
We would like to give our heartfelt thank you to Dr. Anand (4 Corners Cancer Center), Dr. Jason Glass (SJHP GI) and Outpatient Nursing Clinic (SJRMC).
Memorial will be held at Elks Lodge No. 1747 801 Municipal Drive Farmington, NM 87401 on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:30am
