David Hanisek Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Edder Funeral Home, Inc. - Girard on Jun. 14, 2024.
David M. Hanisek, a loving husband, father, poppy, and friend, passed away suddenly on June 11, 2024, at the age of 68. All who knew him will deeply miss his warm smile, kind heart, and witty sense of humor.
Born on April 15, 1956, he was the beloved son of the late Sheriff Andrew J. and Norma G. (Scott) Hanisek.
Upon graduating from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1974, Dave began his working career with Copes Vulcan, where he mastered a variety of jobs. Upon their closing, he began working as a correctional officer at the Erie County Prison until retiring after over twenty years.
With a heart full of wonder, David embraced life's journey, exploring new places, trying new things, and making memories that will be treasured forever. He enjoyed extended weekends with the love of his life and wife of forty-eight years, taking many trips to Canada and the Warren area. They were inseparable, sharing a love for socializing and nature; whether it was kayaking, camping in the Alleghenies, or at the local club, you could always find them together.
Dave was a sports enthusiast, always rooting for his home state's team. He played softball in local leagues for many years and coached his daughters' teams. He lived a full and joyful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. His devotion to his family was unparalleled, and his presence in their lives was a constant source of comfort and strength.
As a creature of habit, he thoroughly enjoyed his morning coffee runs to Sheetz and wing nights at the Barracks. He was a member of St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church, the Girard American Legion Post #494, and the Fairview American Legion Post #742.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jared Michael.
He will be deeply missed by his family, which includes his wife, Cheryl (Coonfer) Hanisek, whom he married on December 11, 1976; daughters, Jamie Hanisek (Tim Taylor) and Jill Belmondo (D.J.); brothers, Dennis Hanisek (Eileen) and Andrew Hanisek; sister, Mary Kay Mucha (Scott); and grandchildren, Kamryn Fenell (Brendon), Anthony and Grady Weiss, Audrey and Abraham Baker, Emily Feldmann, Sophia, Amelia, and Finley Belmondo. As well as many nieces and nephews.
David's legacy is one of love, kindness, and devotion. His family was his rock, and he was theirs. His passing leaves a gaping hole in the lives of those who loved him, but his memory will continue to inspire and uplift them.
Rest in peace, dear David. Your love and light will never fade.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church or Lake City Fire Company Station #56
