David Hargrave Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shaffer Funeral Home - Bronte on Feb. 25, 2026.
David Frank Hargrave, 78, of Bronte, Texas, passed away on February 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 26, 1947, in Seminole, Texas, to Henry (Buster) Calvert Hargrave and Charlene Maud (Murray) Hargrave.

Frank was a commercial refrigeration business owner for over 30 years and later served as a field engineer and consultant for refrigeration equipment manufacturers. Known for his remarkable mechanical mind, he could fix nearly anything that was broken and was skilled in building motors, homes, and just about anything he set his hands to. During his school years in Blackwell, Texas, he developed many of these talents, learning water well drilling, oil field drilling, welding, and numerous other trades that would shape the rest of his life.

He was well loved by all who knew him. His humor and quick wit left a lasting impression on both lifelong friends and those meeting him for the first time. Baptized as a young man in Seminole, Texas, Frank always acknowledged his love of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 29 years, Linda (Janie) Jane Fogel Hargrave; his parents, Henry Calvert Hargrave and Charlene (Murray) Scott; his stepfather, John (Jake) Edward Scott; and his son, Spencer Smith. He is survived by his son, David (Joanna) Hargrave; daughters, Carla Grigsby, Diane Alley, Connie (Justin) Stensby, and Jennifer (Clay) Clemmer; a special friend that is like a son to him, Robbie Overstreet; and a grandson he raised as his own, Spencer Smith, Jr., along with 18 other grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to his grandson, Clayton Adams for his help for everything he has been doing for his grandfather. Also, a special thank you to Robyn Corbin for the care she gave him during his last days.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bronte Community Center. A dinner with family and friends will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
