David L. Harp Sr., passed away after a sudden illness at Upstate Community Hospital on March 23, 2025. Born on November 26, 1947, in Oneida, NY, David was a selfless individual known for his generous spirit and strong will. He served with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery in service to his country. David remained a lifelong member of the American Legion, where he was recognized for his unwavering commitment to his community and fellow veterans.

As a barber with Barber on Wheels, David made a remarkable impact on the lives of those he served, traveling in his Ford Bronco II to reach clients from various walks of life, including farmers, senior citizens, individuals with disabilities and patients in hospitals. His dedication was not merely about providing a haircut; it was about connecting with people and bringing joy to their lives. Described by client Stan Sprague, “he talks a lot but he's a nice personality who will do anything for you,” David was always ready to lend a helping hand.

He found great joy in the great outdoors, engaging in fishing and hunting, hobbies that allowed him to connect with nature and appreciate life's simple pleasures. His love for family was paramount, and he leaves behind a legacy rooted in his close relationships.

David is survived by his beloved daughter, Michelle (Jim) Popple; grandchildren, Ryan and Karter Popple; son, David (Diane) Harp Jr.; grandchild, Kyle D. Harp; great-grandchildren, Cooper Harp and Tucker Harp; sister, Maryanne Rowe; and brothers, Dennis (Diane) Harp and Danny Harp.

David was preceded in death by his father, Edward Allen Harp; mother, Josephine Gladys Hubbard; brother-in-law, Bill Rowe; brothers, Ernie Harp and Eddie (Chris) Harp; and sisters, Patty Richmond and Connie Harp.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 2:00PM at the American Legion Post 104, 325 S. Peterboro St, Canastota, NY 13032. David L. Harp Sr. will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but for the love and kindness he shared with everyone around him.
