David John Herbert, age 77, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026. He was born on November 14, 1948 at McCook, Nebraska to Harvey D. & Margaret Ida Amelia (Breinig) Herbert.

David grew up in Arapahoe and attended Arapahoe Public Schools. He was drafted in to the US Army in 1969 and served in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1971. He was married and had one child to that union: April. He worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads and then worked for Paulsen Inc. of Cozad, Nebraska building roads. He worked for many years and retired in 2011.

He was a member of the Arapahoe Christian Church and served as a deacon on the church board for many years. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, motorcycle riding when he was younger, and loved to draw and paint. He loved his family and being together with them, and being there to help any of them out.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Dick Herbert, brother-in-law Charles Pruitt, sister-in-law Margaret Herbert, aunts Doris (Darrel) Rauch and Janice Breinig.

He is survived by his daughter April Escobedo and grandchildren Kaleb, Jared, Samari, Bella-Anne, sisters Shelia Pruitt and Patricia Daughenbaugh, brothers Donald & Daniel (DJ) Herbert, sister-in-law Deb Herbert, and uncle Lyle Breinig numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
