Gwen A. DeVries

Gwendolyn “Gwen” DeVries, age 85, of Arapahoe, Nebraska passed away on Friday, March 27th, 2026, at the Emerald Nursing home in Cozad, Nebraska.

She was born on January 11, 1941, to John F. and Mable (Roggensees) Corder in McCook, Nebraska. Growing up in the McCook area, she was the youngest of 8 children. She married Orville Scarrow in 1957. Four boys were born into this union, Dan, Randel, Shawn and Troy. On September 3, 1993, Gwen was united in marriage to Tobias (Bud) DeVries in Arapahoe, NE. They made their home on the DeVries homestead north of Arapahoe.

Gwen loved spending time with family and never missed a Corder family reunion. She enjoyed having the grandkids help her out in her garden. She always had a large garden and did a lot of canning to provide good home grown food through the winter months. She also had a very close friend in her dog, Shadow. Before each meal, Shadow would sit on the floor between her and Bud and bow her head while grace was being said.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Bud DeVries of Arapahoe: sons Dan Scarrow (Lori) of Cedar Creek, NE, Randel Scarrow (Connie) of Norton, KS. Troy Scarrow (Rose) of Glenvil, NE, daughters Sara (Ron) Stonerook of Arapahoe, NE, Dana Gellerman of Adair, IA and Becky (Andy) Graham of Franklin, IN.; 23 grandkids and 71 great grandkids. Sister-in-law Dorothy Corder of McCook, NE. and several nieces and nephews.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, son Shawn, 5 brothers, 2 sisters and their spouses.
