David Kent Herren, 61 of Arkansas City passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024, at his residence. Cremation has been effected. A Graveside Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Parker Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home & Crematory.
David was born November 2, 1962, to James A. and Mary B. (Rowland) Herren in Arkansas City. He grew up and attended schools in Arkansas City, graduating from Ark City High School in 1980. After high school David attended and graduated from Cowley College then Southwestern College, earning a bachelor's degree.
On September 26, 1995, David married Sheila "Diane" York in Miami, OK. The couple made their home east of Arkansas City. David worked as a machinist for Boeing for many years. He then worked for Rubbermaid then as a custodian for the Udall school district. David had a passion for woodworking. He could make anything from nothing. He was known in the area for producing some of the highest quality wooden urns around the area and had great success in selling them through many different funeral homes. David was a tinkerer and enjoyed working on just about anything. He also enjoyed working in the yard and taking care of his animals.
Survivors include his wife Diane Herren of the home; son Dallas Herren of Arkansas City; son D.J. Herren of Topeka, KS; sister Bonita Allen and husband Lewis of Arkansas City; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Linda Haislett.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home & Crematory. Online condolences may be made at www.rindt-erdman.com.
