David Wayne Hickstein
April 29, 1962 – July 18, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Wayne Hickstein, 63, of
West Jordan, Utah. David passed away peacefully at home on July 18, 2025, surrounded by love.
David was born on April 29, 1962, in Oxnard, California, to Charles and Mary Hickstein. He attended St. John's Lutheran School in Oxnard from first through eighth grade, continued his education at Channel Islands High School through his junior year, and graduated from Camarillo High School in
Camarillo, California.
A skilled and dedicated craftsman, David built a lifelong career as a Journeyman Tile Setter. He was a proud member of the California Tile Local 18 Union in Simi Valley before relocating to Utah, where he became a valued member of the BAC Mountain West ADC Local 1 Tile Union in West Jordan. Those who worked alongside David knew that he didn't just set tile-he built things that lasted. His precision, patience, and skill left behind more than just beautiful work; they left behind a reputation of a man who could be counted on to do things right.
Beyond his work, David found his greatest joy in the outdoors. He loved camping under the stars, hunting in the quiet of the early morning, and fishing in peaceful waters. These passions reflected his adventurous spirit and his deep appreciation for nature's beauty.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Glynis Lynn Hickstein; daughters Jessica, Shannon, and Breana Hickstein; grandson Kayden Hickstein; and step-daughter Kayla Blakely. He is also survived by his father, Charles Hickstein; sister Debbie Hollinger and her husband Steve; brother Chuck Hickstein; nephews Karl and Christopher Hutchinson, Christopher's wife Nasa, and their daughter Aurora. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Hickstein.
A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Conejo Mountain Memorial Cemetery in
Camarillo, California. The service will be led by Pastor Mike Schultze of Peace Lutheran in Camarillo. The family invites guests to wear casual dress in honor of David's laid-back nature.
David's family will forever remember his humor, generosity, and quiet strength. His life was a testament to hard work, loyalty, and love for family. As David often believed, "The best memories are made around a campfire."
