David Scott Hildebrand, 61, of Hanover, Pa., passed away on February 20, 2025. His passing was unexpected, leaving a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him.
Born on June 11, 1963, to Phil and Carole (Miller) Hildebrand in York, Pa., Dave attended Central York High School. He had a deep love for music, billiards, Volkswagen Bugs, and disc golf. A true audiophile, he spent years curating and perfecting his hi-fi stereo system, filling his life with the sounds of classic rock and blues, often at full volume for maximum effect.
Dave had a natural charisma that made him stand out in any job he took on. Though he never had much patience for the daily grind, he left an impression wherever he worked-whether in sales, the trades, or any of the other ventures he explored over the years. His true passions, however, lay in the things that brought him joy-music, friendship, a well-played game of pool, and the simple pleasure of good conversation. Many of these interests came together at the Hanover Moose and Eagles clubs, where, as a longstanding member, he found camaraderie, competition, and a sense of belonging.
Dave was known for his kindness, humor, and generosity. He had a way of making people feel seen and supported, always ready with a warm smile or a listening ear. He carried the weight of others' burdens with quiet strength, and his presence brought comfort to those around him. His family and friends will miss him beyond words.
Dave spent 22 years married to Norma Stockbridge, building a life together in Hanover. Though their marriage came to an end, their bond remained, and they continued to share an enduring friendship.
He is survived by his mother, Carole, of York; his sister, Jane McCarthy, of Sedona, Ariz.; his brother, Craig Hildebrand, of York; his stepdaughters Rebecca and Meghan Gallery; and many extended family members and dear friends.
A private celebration of life will be held in Dave's honor.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988lifeline.org/donate in Dave's memory. May his life remind us of the importance of reaching out, supporting one another, and holding space for those who may be struggling.
