Clinton-David W. Hoag, 65, formerly of Clinton, and Barrington, Illinois, passed away suddenly while living in San Jose, Costa Rica, on February 27, 2024. David is pre-deceased by his parents, Richard and Mary (Cocchiola) Hoag, and brother, Richard D. Hoag, Jr. He leaves his three brothers and their wives, Mark & Heidi, Michael and Leah, all of Clinton; and Joseph & Susan of Westford; many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends, notably Ana Damaris Castillo and Jenni Shanley.
David was a graduate of the Clinton High School, Class of 1976, where he excelled academically and was a standout athlete and member of the varsity football, basketball, and track teams, even after sustaining a broken neck during his sophomore year. Following graduation, David attended Worcester State College, studying Art and History before moving to Barrington, Illinois, where he held several jobs. David's adventurous spirit led him to Nicaragua, where he built his own home in the mountains, became a fixture in his community, and established several successful businesses. A fitness and sports enthusiast, David enjoyed swimming, hiking, and cycling, and was a faithful fan of Chicago and Boston sports teams. He spent several recent years of retirement in Costa Rica, where he found happiness in the company of friends. Funeral services will be held privately and are entrusted to the care of Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton.
