David Ricker Hodsdon, a beloved figure in his community, passed away at his home in Wewahitchka, Florida, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on January 2, 1932, in Topsfield, Maine, David enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life defined by his unwavering love for God and family, and his passion for craftsmanship.

David spent approximately four years residing in Wewahitchka, where he attended Westside Baptist Church, having previously retired in Enfield, Maine and created many cherished memories alongside his late wife, Margaret Hislar Hodsdon. Their time spent together on Cold Stream Pond, where he enjoyed boat fishing, ice fishing, and good friendships, epitomized the joy they found in their retirement years. Prior to settling in Maine, David had raised his family in California, and later established himself in Maryland, where he owned a Corian Fabrication Shop, demonstrating his dedication as a skilled craftsman.

In the later years of his life, David embraced a new hobby in woodworking—specifically Wood Turning—allowing him to express his creativity through the crafting of beautiful pens, bowls, and platters. His meticulous attention to detail earned him a reputation as an artisan whose work was admired by all who had the privilege of witnessing it.

David was known for his generous and loving nature. He was a man of prayer, kindness, and compassion, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a comforting word to those around him. His genuine spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He is survived by his two children, David William Hodsdon (Bonnie) of Olney, Maryland, and Janet Johnson (Chuck) of Wewahitchka, Florida. David’s legacy continues through his five grandchildren: Chere' Evans (Richard), Michael David Johnson (Anna), Andrew Johnson, Sheena Johnson, and Cheryl Stotts (Ian), as well as ten great-grandchildren: Judah Johnson (Bailey), Lily Johnson, Nadine Evans, Rosemary Evans, Chloe Mendiola, Sophia Mendiola, Evie Mendiola, David Mendiola, Piper Stotts, and Tavish Stotts. He loved them all deeply and invested in their lives generously.

He is also survived by one brother, Al Hodsdon (Priscilla) of Carmel, Maine, and one sister, Martha Tabor of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Additionally, David kept in close contact with a host of cousins and second cousins in Maine, reaffirming his strong ties to family throughout his life.

David Ricker Hodsdon’s presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him. His contributions to both his crafts and his community created a legacy that will be cherished for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Gideons International (https://gideons.org/donate).

Funeral services to honor Mr. Hodsdon will be held at 11:00 A.M. Central Time on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Westside Baptist Church in Wewahitchka, Florida under the direction of Comforter Funeral Home.
