David Eugene Hoge, age 82, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, at his son's home in Jefferson City, Missouri. Born on April 15, 1942, in Carthage, Missouri, he was the son of the late Herbert Cecil and Frances Eugenia (Steward) Hoge.
David was a proud graduate of Carthage High School and Southern Missouri State University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in English, followed by a Master's degree from the University of Missouri. He had a passion for education and literature, which he cherished throughout his life.
A dedicated outdoorsman, David was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed fishing. He was also a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the LA Raiders, relishing every moment spent watching sports. Music was another love of his; he found great joy in the sounds of The Rolling Stones. Additionally, he enjoyed playing baseball, soccer, and indulging in a good book.
David proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, as a Specialist, from 1967 to 1970 during the Vietnam War. His service left a lasting impact on him and instilled a strong sense of skepticism and distrust in the federal government.
He is survived by his significant other, Janice Sanders of Springfield, Missouri; his sons, Daniel Hoge (Mary) of Jefferson City and Alex Hoge of Columbia, Missouri; his sister-in-law, Becky Hoge. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Phil Hoge.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Disabled American Veterans (5054 Monticello Road, Jefferson City MO 65109).
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on November 15th at Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery (1479 County Road 1675 Jacksonville, Missouri, 65260).
Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 West Main Street, Jefferson City, Missouri 65109 (573) 636-3838. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.millardfamilychapels.com

I first met David in a college class. He sat behind me, and we exchanged jokes
when we should have been studying. He became my college boyfriend, but after graduation we both went our own ways. We re-connected through Facebook about 50 years later, and shared a wonderful love. He was a truly
fine gentleman. I loved him dearly, and will hold his memory close to my heart forever.
