David Leroy Holt, born on May 31, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, departed this life on July 11, 2025, at the age of 81. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry Holt, and two daughters, Cathrin Holt and Stacia Holt. He also leaves behind his cherished granddaughters, Eva Dickerson, Savannah Holt, and Eliza Dickerson, along with his son-in-law, Glenn Dickerson. Dave was the beloved brother of Jim Holt and sister-in-law Sylvia Holt, as well as a vast array of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dave was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served from June 1, 1964, to January 24, 1972, during the Vietnam War on the carrier USS Enterprise, where he achieved the rank of PT2, working in intellegence. After his military service, he dedicated his professional life to becoming a skilled mechanical engineer, working on many different and interesting projects designing various types of business machinery throughout his career before his retirement.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dave had a vibrant personal life filled with passions and interests. He loved keeping an immaculate lawn and designing and building many personal projects. He enjoyed becoming a part of Sunnyvale First Baptist Church, and he and Sherry especially enjoyed their Sunday School class.
Dave and Sherry were both avid snow skiers and delighted in the thrill of the slopes. They actually met as members of the same ski club, The HOTS (Heart Of Texas Skiers), pioneering as the first parents in the club when they welcomed their baby Stacia.
In high school Dave was an enthusiastic participant in track, where he excelled in high hurdle events. Later in life, Dave cherished his time spent enjoying coffee with his friends, often fondly referred to as the "old dudes." Notably, David participated in the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M after high school, later achieving his Bachelor of Science degree from Amber University at the age of 53.
A memorial service will be held at Sunnyvale First Baptist Church on, July 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Inurnment with Full Military Honors will take place at DFW National Cemetery the same day, July 24, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Dave's memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
