David Wayne Hopper

 

David Hopper, a beloved member of the community, has passed away at the age of 44 in Grove, Oklahoma. Born on August 1, 1978, in Oklahoma City, David leaves behind a rich legacy as a son, brother, father, and friend. David's career in the construction industry spanned many years and he made significant contributions to numerous projects. His strong work ethic and attention to detail earned him the respect of his colleagues and clients alike. He was a man of many passions and talents. He will be fondly remembered for his involvement in coaching wrestling, where he inspired and mentored young athletes. His artistic side shone through in various creative pursuits, whether it be his talent for woodworking or playing the trumpet with immense skill and joy.

David often found solace in spending time outdoors fishing or engaging in various adventures that brought him closer to nature. He also had a passion for classic rock music and was quite the cook.

In addition to his work and hobbies, David held a master’s degree which spoke to his commitment to personal growth and development. His thirst for knowledge was evident throughout his life as he constantly sought opportunities to expand his understanding of the world around him.

David proudly served in the United States Army from 2002-2012. His military service, combined with his achievements as a Service Member are a testament to his exceptional character and professionalism. David graduated the Special Forces Qualification Course, joining the ranks of Special Forces and earned the right to wear the coveted Green Beret. He went on to serve as a Special Forces Engineer Sergeant specializing in construction and demolitions on an Operational Detachment-Alpha or “A-Team” which specialized in mountain warfare and infiltration with 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne). At 1st Special Forces Group, David gained additional skills including sniper qualification, and would eventually achieve the rank of Staff Sergeant. David is a veteran, having served in support of the Global War on Terror in Afghanistan. His awards and decorations include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Special Forces Tab, Parachutist Badge, and Drill Sergeant Identification Badge. His service reflects credit upon himself, his family, and his country.

He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Lydia Hopper, who will forever treasure their special bond. His passing is mourned by his father, Dr. Robert Hopper, and wife Jan along with his mother, Susa Hopper. His siblings, Sadie Newman, Breah Hopper, Harvey Hopper and his wife Kenzie, Tina Liggins, Scott Glover, Ginger Rainbolt, and Matt Glover, and spouse Julie Hopper, nieces, and nephews to include Darius Hopper, Damien Hopper, Landen Howerton, Thatcher Howerton, Maximus Hopper, Susannah Hopper, Maddix Newman, and Aidin Newman, and many other close and special friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Currie Hopper-Willcoxson.

A visitation will be held at 12:30 PM, Monday, July 24, 2023 with services starting at 1:00 PM, at Grove Christian Center with Pastor Mark Linn officiating.  David will be laid to rest at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the  Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
