David P. Hornyak passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on March 12, 2025, in Pacheco, California, at the age of 59. Born on November 12, 1965, in East Orange, New Jersey, David lived a life marked by passion, dedication, and a deep commitment to those around him.
Already from birth, David was a happy and healthy child with a 'bigger than life' personality. His parents, Lorraine and Michael, were so blessed having a son like him. The family moved from New Jersey to California in 1976 as his beloved father's career at Bechtel brought them out to the West Coast. From a very young age, David had a very special and close bond with his father. He would always turn to him for advice or just to sit and banter with each other. When Michael passed away in May of 2022, it was a great loss to David that he still hadn't fully recovered from.
David always had a great love of cars, and when he started at Miramonte High he was ecstatic to get to enroll in Car Shop classes, which he excelled in and also made life-long friends there. After he graduated High School, he went on to study at DVC where he also worked as a substitute teacher. He really enjoyed it and the students really loved him, asking for him whenever their regular teacher was off. David gave them all individual attention and became like a big brother to the students.
David pursued his education with determination, earning an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration from Fullerton College before obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Southern Oregon State University. His career in purchasing spanned several esteemed companies, including Bechtel, KBR, Deloitte & Touche, Telia, Allied Container Services, Logosol, the Boy Scouts of America, and Chenega. Through his work, he built lasting relationships and earned the respect of colleagues across industries.
Beyond his professional achievements, David's lifelong love for cars made him take great pride in maintaining and repairing every vehicle he and his wife ever owned. His mechanical and electrical skills were unmatchedthere was little he couldn't fix. A true handyman in every sense, he approached every challenge with confidence and ingenuity.
David found most joy in spending time with his life partner and wife of 28 years, Hanna. The two of them did everything together and were true soul-mates. He also loved movies, music, books, fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. The woods were a place of solace for hima space where he could connect with nature and embrace its quiet beauty. He especially liked foraging for and picking mushrooms. Above all else, he cherished time spent with family and loved ones.
David is survived by his beloved wife Hanna; his mother Lorraine; his mother-in-law Britt; his sister-in-law Ann-Charlotte; his brother-in-law Leif; his sister-in-law Erika; his brother-in-law Peter; his nieces Maria, Anna, and Emma; his nephews Martin and Mathias; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews Frida, Nils, Klara, John, and Tage.
