David L. Houry

David L. Houry, 39, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 14, 1983, to Robert and Darlene Houry. David was a devoted father and loving husband, talented artist, animator, musician, actor and dedicated Playstation and Nintendo Switch gamer.
David worked for several years as an animator for American Greetings in Cleveland, Ohio, as well as for two major gaming studios in Reno, Nevada. He was also an active thespian in the Reno theater scene for a time. After his recurrence of peritoneal cancer in 2022, he moved his family to upstate New York to find solace in the beauty of nature there.
David's wife and three sons were his joy and pride. He enjoyed introducing them to classic and highly regarded console games and sophisticated foreign tabletop games, building expert Lego sets and watching well-reviewed movies. It was important to him to impart his knowledge and appreciation of film and video game history to his family, and he would spend hours sharing his thoughts on the subjects. He relished in quality storytelling and cinema. David developed a love for coffee in his later years and enjoyed listening to jazz while testing different brewing methods with locally roasted beans.
He loved his family deeply and devoted time to sharing with them all of the things he treasured in life.
David is survived by his wife, Linda Houry, their sons Perceval, Chester, and Arthur; sister Amber (Chris) Freeman and niece, Hannah Freeman; brother Stephen Houry (Lauren Brandl), nephew, Luca Houry; beloved great uncle Ed Houry, dear great aunt Minnie Gressley, parents Robert and Darlene Houry, and his beloved cat, Chance.
Funeral services will be private.
