Edward Houry

Edward Houry, age 87 of Fairfax, VA passed away peacefully at home with his daughters and wife at his side on September 30, 2024. Ed was a loving husband of 55 years, a sought-after mentor to judges and lawyers, an amazing "girl dad" who encouraged his daughters to become strong independent successful women, and a doting grandfather to his three grandchildren.
He was born on January 22, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio to Halim and Halla Houry. Ed was a motivated, self-starter who put himself through Fenn College (Now Cleveland State) with a degree in engineering. He subsequently went to Cleveland Marshall School of Law at night, while working full time as an engineer, and received the highest bar score. Ed's career includes being a registered professional engineer and an attorney at law who served with five federal agencies, ultimately serving at the highest non-political levels as the Deputy Counsel of the Naval Sea Systems Command and the Chief Judge of the USDA board of contract appeals. In his retirement, he pursued his lifelong interest in the early Christian church and authored Today's Christian Heretics and continued to express his opinions on social and legal issues with numerous letters to the editor in The Washington Post and other outlets.
Edward is survived by his wife Vicki (Witt) Houry, his daughter Debra Houry, Matthew (Debra) McGivern, and granddaughter Elizabeth; and his daughter Diane Kier, Matt (Diane) Kier, and grandsons Ethan and Walker. Edward is also survived by his sister Minerva Gressley. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Houry and Albert Khoury and sisters, Georgette Busch and Virginia O'Dell.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 12, with light refreshments to follow in the hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edward's memory to Doctors Without Borders, Anera, or Arlington Food Assistance Center.
