David Humphrey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCrery & Harra Funeral Home and Crematory - Kirkwood Highway on Nov. 17, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

David C. Humphrey, 63, of Middletown, Delaware, passed away at home on November 13, 2025 after a nearly yearlong, hard-fought battle with cancer.

Born on March 27, 1962, in Wilmington, Delaware, David lived a life full of laughter, love, and unwavering dedication to those around him. He spent much of his life on the softball field, happiest with a glove in his hand and friends by his side. Through the many leagues he played in, he built a community of teammates who became lifelong friends and shared memories that shaped some of his best days.

A proud graduate of Delcastle Technical High School, where he studied electrical trades, David carried his technical skills into his professional life with the same enthusiasm and precision that he brought to every aspect of his world. He continued on to work in IT for DuPont, JP Morgan Chase and finally Randstad. But it was not just his work that defined him-it was the joy he brought to others and the deep connections and friendships he nurtured that were like family.

David was a man who made it his mission to bring laughter wherever he went. Known affectionately as "Hump," he had an infectious sense of humor and a gift for making people feel welcome and at ease. Whether through a well-timed joke or a warm smile, David had a way of lifting spirits and creating lasting memories.

He cherished time with his family above all else. His wife of thirty years, Madalyn, stood by his side through life's many adventures. Together they built a home filled with love and laughter. David took immense pride in being a father to his beloved daughter Jessica-a role he embraced wholeheartedly. Much of who Jessica is today is a reflection of the love, guidance, and humor her father shared with her every day.

David also shared close bonds with his brothers William (Donna) and John (Pegge), as well as sisters-in-law Wendy (Kevin), Jennifer, and brother-in-law Teddy. He held dear the memory of his parents, William and Mary, who preceded him in death.

Outside of family life, David found joy in many passions. He loved playing softball and cheering on the Baltimore Ravens alongside Jessica. Those game days were treasured moments between father and daughter. Among his favorite traditions was attending an annual University of Delaware football game and watching the Super Bowl with his brothers. A lover of the sea, David delighted in deep sea fishing and taking ocean-based trips with family that became cherished traditions. A lifelong enthusiast of firehouses and the history of firefighting, David found joy in learning about and supporting the brave men and women who serve in the fire and all armed services. His fascination with history and old war movies reflected a thoughtful side that appreciated stories of courage and resilience.

David also valued friendship deeply. He looked forward to monthly Arby's lunches with Jim-simple gatherings that meant so much-and annual Christmas parties with DuPont/GNOC that became legendary among friends for their warmth and good cheer.

To those who knew him, David was more than just a friend or relative-he was the glue that held people together. His presence brought comfort; his laughter brought light; his heart brought unity.

Visitation will be held at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home (3710 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19808) on November 24 from 6-8pm. An additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on November 25 at 10am with a service to follow at 11am. We welcome everyone to attend burial at All Saints Cemetery in Wilmington, DE following the service. Flowers can be delivered to the funeral home between 9am-2pm on the 24th.

May the memory of David Humphrey continue to bring comfort to all who knew him and carry forward the joy he so generously gave in life.
