Donald ("Donnie") William Harmon of Smyrna passed away suddenly at home on July 4, 2025. Donnie was born on July 26, 1955 and was 69 years old at the time of his passing.
Donnie was born in Calvert, Maryland and was raised in Maryland, Virginia and northern Delaware to the late Samuel Stuart Harmon and Goldie Bolt. He graduated from Delcastle Technical High School and earned his diploma specializing in electronics and technology. Donnie was a tireless worker, dedicated husband, and consummate provider for his family. He found work at the young age of 12 years old at Delaware Park where he would hot walk horses before school. For the majority of his life, Donnie was a "bread man", making deliveries throughout the State and, ultimately, owning his own business. Prior to retirement, Donnie and his wife relocated outside of Orlando, FL where they both worked at Disney World for close to 15 years.
Donnie was a lover of life and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He cherished his family and enjoyed every minute that he shared with them. He loved to laugh, watch endless sports (including the Philly Eagles, "Go Birds"), travel, and, above all, spend time with his loving wife, Patti.
In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his step-father James McNair, Sr.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Patricia ("Patti") A. Harmon (McElvenny), daughter Rebecca A. Hanlon and her husband Dr. Jacob E. Hanlon of Middletown, DE, son Thomas W. Harmon of Smyrna, DE, grandchildren Madison Hanlon, Grace Hanlon, Jake Hanlon, Brynlee Harmon, Ella Harmon, ex-wife Cynthia Riley, half-brother James ("Jimmy") McNair, Jr., half-sister Terri McNair, sister-in-law Jayne D'Ortone and husband Fred, sister-in-law Ree Impriano and husband Mike, step-son Michael Ronig and numerous cousins and extended relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 10th from 5-7pm (with reception to follow from 7-9pm) at Faries Funeral Home, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, DE 19977.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Wounded Warriors Project and/or any animal shelter/foundation of your choice.
