David Hymas Obituary

David Austin Hymas was born August 15, 1946, in Montpelier, Idaho, the 2nd son of Helen Austin and Rex Ernest Hymas.

Dave attended Washington Grade School, Franklin Jr. High in Pocatello, and graduated from Pocatello High School in May 1966. He enjoyed supporting his school sports teams and was proud to be called a Pocatello Indian.

Dave worked part-time at Jack Lipe's Conoco station during high school and for a full year after graduation, prior to enlisting in the U. S. Navy. He served proudly for 2 years but was ready to get out after his 2-year commitment.

Dave graduated from the University of Wyoming Trade School in May 1970 with a certificate as an auto mechanic. Dave worked for another Conoco station on Main Street in Pocatello prior to being hired by J. R. Simplot Company in a maintenance capacity in Pocatello. Dave retired from J. R. Simplot Company after 29 years.

After retirement, Dave bought a motor home, following in the footsteps of Rex and Helen, and they would together, motor on down to Las Vegas in the wintertime to enjoy association with his aunts and uncles and Mom and Dad.

David was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Also, he belonged to the Elks Club and union organization.

Dave never married and thus: no children. But he has been very supportive of his nephew and nieces and his Grand-nephews and Grand-nieces, especially in sports. And he's been very disappointed when he can't follow a broadcast of a Grand-niece or Grand-nephew on "Game Changer".

David has lived for the past 8-9 years at Copper Summit Assisted Living and has enjoyed the facility and his social interaction with those individuals. He's very, very lucky at cards and most other games.

David passed away at the age of 79, January 16, 2026, in Pocatello, ID.

David is survived by his brother, Eric Hymas of Pocatello, ID, his nephew Torrey Hymas of Pocatello, ID, nieces: Staci Larson of Pocatello, ID, Brooke Mitchell of Shelley, ID, Jamie Comby of Kaysville, UT, and Kristi Bowen of Idaho Falls, ID. David is also survived by 15 Grand Nieces/Nephews and 10 Great-Grand Nieces/Nephews.

David was pre-deceased by his parents Rex Ernest and Helen Austin Hymas, his brother Jerrold Rex Hymas, and sister Diane Hymas.

A graveside service was held at Liberty Cemetery in Liberty, Idaho on January 19, 2026. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.wilksfuneralhomes.com.
