My name is Colin Norris. I am a senior at Winfield City High School in Winfield Al. My government teacher is having us write to a family of a fallen warrior, and yours stuck out to me for some reason. A little bit about myself: I love football, fishing, and hunting. I plan on becoming a pharmacist after high school. I know that no words could comfort you for the loss of David. However, I want to say thankyou. It is because of brave men and women like David who are willing to lay down their lives, that we can hunt, fish, and play football in a free county. Freedom is never free, and David died beliving in that cause and I am eternally grateful. If you would like to respond to this letter, feel free to do so by emailing me at [email protected]. Thankyou and God Bless

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. David will never be forgotten.
For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part. I salute you.
For those missing in action;for those who didn't make it home.I know you're in God's presence you are not alone. For every neatly folded flag;for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory. I salute you, allow me the honorto salute you with permission let me say even though I hold no rank know that from my heart my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part. I salute you.

I Salute You.

Our daughter and her husband are USAFA grads from '99 and '00. I offer this Arapaho prayer: You will not see the sun rise in the east again, nor will you see the moon in all its brightness in the night sky, nor feel the wind on your face nor the earth beneath your bare feet. Today you are going home. May the ancestors greet you and show you the way. May your journey be joyful.

I had the honor of meeting David when he and my daughter Leanne served in the 21st at Peterson. A very nice, thoughtful, fun-loving and dedicated man. Dedicated to his family, his friends, his church and his country. Thank you David for dedicating your life to serve your country despite knowing your service could end like this. It takes a very special person to put their life on the line daily to protect and serve. I was devastated when I heard the news. My deepest condolences and prayers are with your family. Dear Friends and Family,
I too, only know of this gentle soul through his friend, Leanne and her Mom, Debbie. I pray that the Lord God will be with his family and friends as they grieve the loss of this wonderful person. He personifies the true meaning of an "American" with the greatest sacrifice of all. Surely our Lord God welcomed him with open arms.
My prayers to all,
Sheri Badzik

To hear the source of this man's greatness was the Lord Jesus Christ reveals more of his humbleness and desire to honor the Lord he truly served. Well done good and faithful servant, great will be your reward.

What a terrific person! Although I did not have the honor of knowing Capt. Lyon, it is not difficult to realize that he was quite special and that his death is a tremendous loss for his family, his community, his church, the military, and all those whom he touched with his extraordinary life. May his soul rest in peace and may Capt. Lyon's family and friends be consoled by realizing they will always have their good memories of their time together. I hope to meet Capt. Lyon in the life to come.
