David Janson, 80, of Benson, died Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at his home. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2025, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, Minnesota. Visitation will continue from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the church with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.
David Irvin Janson was born on August 19, 1945, to Irvin and Florence (Lee) Janson. He was baptized on November 4, 1945, at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church by Rev. H. S. Nasheim and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Nasheim at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church. He grew up on a farm south of Benson and attended school in Benson. He graduated from Benson High School in 1963 and from Alexandria Technical College in 1965. David served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1965 to 1971.
David was married in 1966 and later divorced. To this union two children were born, Shawn Fayette and Timothy David. He lived on the family farm all his life. He farmed, did carpentry work, and drove part-time for United Parcel Service (UPS.)
David was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church and belonged to the Minnesota Street Rod Association and Swift County Cruisers.
On August 26, 2003, David married the love of his life Diane Moline Espelien on the family farm in Cashel Township by Rev. David Andert.
Among things David enjoyed were car shows, hunting, fishing, and dancing. He loved cruising in his GTO and getting together with family and friends.
David Irvin Janson entered into rest September 23, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife Diane Janson of Benson; daughter Shawn Reinhofer of Milaca, MN; son Timothy (Pam) Janson of Benson; stepson Peter Espelien of Willmar, MN; stepdaughter Sheila Espelien (Roger Haffner) of Alexandria, MN; grandson Jarrod Picken; granddaughters: Nancy (Cody) Nickle, Brooklyn Janson (Trevor Zeppelin), and Josie (Justice) Dilley; step grandchildren: Tony, Brett, Jake, and Riley Johnston; great-grandchildren Weston and Theodora Nickle; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents Irvin and Florence Janson, sister Gloria Smith, son-in-law Chuck Reinhofer, mother and father-in-law Don and Lorraine Moline.
