David S. Johnson age 76 of Woodhull died Monday July 16, 2018 at home. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday July 20, 2018 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Woodhull. Burial is in the Woodhull Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 PM Thursday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull where memorials may be left to Bethany Lutheran Church or Woodhull Cemetery Association. He was born December 10, 1941 in Galesburg, IL to Edwin and Minnie Rosene Johnson. David graduated from AlWood High School in 1959. He married Marilyn “Marty” Lundgren October 23, 1965 in Wenona, IL.
David served in the Illinois Army National Guard, Kewanee Armory.
For many years Dave was employed at the Financial Security Life Insurance Company in Moline, IL. which later became Jackson National Life Insurance Company. He specialized in customer service, sales and underwriting.
He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church and a former member of the Woodhull Jaycees. David played and coached basketball for the AlWood Jr. and Sr. High School for many years. He played basketball, baseball and softball his entire life. He enjoyed playing on the QC Old Stars, the senior softball league and participating in local, state and national Senior Olympics. He was an avid Cardinals fan and enjoyed gardening, planting flowers in the yard and ushering baseball games for the Quad City River Bandits. Family was always important to him and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Marty, 2 daughters Stacey (Thom) Vyneman of Brentwood, TN and Stephanie (Art) Guglielmucci of Lemont, IL, 1 son Bradley Johnson of Plainfield, IL, 7 grandchildren; Alex and Andrew Vyneman, Ashlin and Lakin Guglielmucci, Zac, Ben and Luke Johnson. 1 sister, Shirley (Jack) Miller of Sumter, S.C, 1 Brother Dorence (Betty) Johnson of Moline. IL, Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Lucille and Joyce, 2 brothers Clayton and Richard.
