Mr. David ‘Rodger’ Johnson, 77, of Calhoun Falls Highway, Elberton, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at his sister’s home.

Rodger was born in Elberton on September 5, 1946, son of the late Alvin Brewer Johnson and Sara Louise Dixon Johnson. He was a 1964 graduate of Elbert County High School, was a lifelong member of Bethel E Baptist Church, and served on the Georgia Army National Guard. Like his daddy before him, Rodger worked in the construction industry all of his life. He enjoyed working for Eddie Christian Auction during his retirement years.

An avid outdoorsman, Rodger could often be found working his vegetable gardening, baiting a hook and hoping for a bite, or picking up pecans. His favorite pastime was piddling on his tractor and watching movies on television. Rodger was a very selfless man who would help anyone who needed it.

Surviving are his son, Russell Johnson; granddaughters: Morgan and Ryan Hollingsworth and Taylor Johnson; great-grandchildren: Hunter, Irene, and Gemma; sisters: Dale and Roger Sprouse and Nancy Fleming and Donnie Kea; sisters-in-law: Gloria Johnson and Martha Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Tommy Johnson and Gerald Johnson.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 25, from 11:00-11:45a.m. at Bethel E Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 12noon in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Scott Mize officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Phil Johnson, Jared Fleming, Ryan Hollingsworth, Steven Adams, Cody Moss, and George King honored as pallbearers.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
