David Allen Johnson passed away on May 31, 2025, at the age of 63, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, generosity, and deep devotion to the people he loved.
Raised in Crown Point, Indiana, Dave was the son of Carl and Donna Johnson (both predeceased) and the kind of person who made an impression wherever he went. After graduating from Indiana State University, he spent over 30 years in financial printing in Chicago, where his work ethic and quick wit earned him the respect-and affection-of countless colleagues.
Dave had a laugh that could fill a room, a heart that never said no, and a way of making everyone feel like family. He was the guy who would give you the shirt off his back and would give you his prized possession if he thought it would make you happy. His generosity was instinctive and unwavering.
He loved all kinds of sports, especially the ones that made for good background noise during a nap. Baseball and golf were favorites, and he believed strongly in the simple joys of an afternoon well spent.
Travel became one of the great joys of Dave's life after he met the love of his life, Helen. With her, he got his first passport and never looked back-exploring Greece, Cyprus, Mexico, the Caribbean, and several parts of Europe. And yet, no matter how far he roamed, one of his favorite places to be was still a familiar barstool at Friar Tuck, surrounded by friends, laughter and good conversation.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife Helen Johnson; his brothers Kevin (Susan) Johnson and Brad (Cindy) Johnson; his in-laws Van and Marion Coufoudakis; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, godchildren, extended family, and friends who became family. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the way he made others feel seen, cared for, and welcome.
A service to celebrate Dave's life will be held on Saturday, June 14, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Lakeview Funeral Home, 1458 W. Belmont Avenue, Chicago, IL 60657.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to World Central Kitchen, an organization Dave deeply admired. As he always said, "We need to feed people." World Central Kitchen | Donate

Dave´s booming laugh may have been silenced but the thought of Dave lives on in the hearts and minds of those whose lives he touched.
My thoughts and prayers are with Helen and the rest of the family.
