Sachiko "Sachi" Higashi, beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025.

She is survived by her daughters Lynn (Dave) and Heidi (Kevin); grandchildren Rhonda (Mike), Justin (Lidia), Kelsey (Jeff), and Nick (Katie); great-grandchildren Macky, Benton, Kyle, Jacob, Reina, Naomi, Max, Teagan, and Madison; great-great-grandson Daniel; her sister Emi; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Hideo, and her siblings Masao, Riyoko, Shigeru, and Snoogie.

Born and raised on the island of Kauai, Sachi later moved to Chicago, where she and Hideo built their family together. She was a lifelong Cubs fan and will be remembered for her famous pies and the many other gifts she shared through her cooking. She loved playing "her own version" of Samba and found great joy and purpose in both her faith and her family.

Affectionately known as Nana, Sachi was strong yet gentle, quick to laugh, and always ready for a card game … or bowl of ice cream. She filled our lives with light, and we will think of her and smile whenever we hear a ukulele, see a cardinal, or are startled by a caterpillar in the garden.

A private celebration of life will be held in Chicago, after which the family will bring her home to Hawaii for her final resting place. She will be deeply missed.

A hui hou. (Until we meet again)
