JOHNSON

David "D.J." Johnson was called home unexpectedly Friday, August 29, 2025. He was 64. Born November 14, 1960, in Marion, Ohio, to William Johnson and Marjorie Irey

Dave "Handy Man Dave" was a lifelong handyman, always out and about searching for his next project. He hated sitting still. Around Lake Choctaw, he was known for riding his lawnmower from job to job. He enjoyed the company of his grand dog, Dexter, who often rode along in the trailer behind him. Dave would joke that Dexter was his best helper, always bringing him work just by being by his side.

When at home, Dave loved nothing more than watching NASCAR, never missing a good race. He also followed Real America's Voice religiously and could often be found calling friends or family to share the latest thing he learned from watching that day. He loved a good conspiracy theory and a lively conversation.

In his younger years, Dave spent most of his time in Caledonia with close friends Pee Wee and his wife Peg, or at Randy's. He, Pee Wee, and Peg shared a love for the Attica Raceway and some of his happiest memories were spent there. Recently, the three took Dave's daughter to the track, a memory she will always cherish. Dave's life was marked by simple pleasures, loyal friendships, a good time, and his family. He will be remembered for his determination, humor, and the many memories made with friends.

Dave is survived by his daughter Shannon Saddler and son-in-law Jamie Kaltenbach; grandchildren: Tyler Runk, McKinzie Harbin, and Cameron Harbin; brothers William (Sharon) Johnson and Danny (Lynn) Johnson; cherished granddog Dexter.

He was preceded in death by his father William Johnson, mother Marjorie Worcester, stepfather Vernon "Butch" Worcester, and brother Steve Detwiler.

Honoring Dave's generous spirit, his body has been donated to science to aid in medical research and education. A celebration to honor D.J. will be held at the American Legion Post #401, 130 East Main Street, Caledonia, Ohio at a date announced in the near future.
