David Charles Johnson

David Johnson, age 53 of Cottage Grove, died unexpectedly on December 25, 2025.

Memorial service will be 12:00 pm, Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S., Cottage Grove with visitation one hour prior to the service.

David Charles Johnson was born February 26, 1972 in Hastings, Minnesota to Roger and Mary Johnson. He grew up in Cottage Grove and graduated from Park High School in 1990. In 1994, David earned his Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Engineering. Known to many as "a tech guy," his skills led him to work at KSTP and Spectrum Sports. Most recently, he was employed at Awards By Hammond (formerly Ed's Trophies) in Newport.

David had a lifelong passion for trains-whether full-sized or model trains, he was captivated. His nieces and nephews fondly called him "Uncle Choo-Choo" or simply "Uncle Chooch." He loved westerns and anything nostalgic, and he built an impressive music collection while also being a movie enthusiast. David enjoyed fly fishing in Montana and spending time with family at the cabin. Above all, he cherished his family, who will deeply miss his warm smile.

David is survived by his parents Roger and Mary; siblings Sue (Todd) Tiffany, Steve (Mechelle) Johnson and Sandy (Tim) Porter; nieces and nephews Anna, Nick, Buffy, Haley, Shelby, Maddie and Blake as well as great nephew and niece, Rex and Ivy.
