Debbie Martin lived a life overflowing with love, fun, and happiness-and she made sure everyone around her felt it, too. From the moment she entered a room, Deb brought a spark of joy, a generous heart, and a deep belief that life was meant to be lived fully, laughed through loudly, and shared with love. Every day was treated like a gift, and Deb unwrapped each one with enthusiasm, kindness, and a whole lot of fun.
Born a proud baby boomer on October 14, 1953, Deb was the sixth of seven children born to Harriet and Orville Marty in
Cottage Grove, Minnesota. Growing up in a big family taught her early how to be independent, self-reliant, practical, and caring toward those she loved. Those lessons stayed with her for life. She worked hard, lived simply, and somehow still managed to create a happy, meaningful life filled with warmth, generosity, and laughter.
Deb was incredibly hardworking-raising her family while working in factories, schools, restaurants (where she famously earned the nickname "Hot Mama"), and at home. She stretched every dollar, made the most of what she had, and gave endlessly of herself. Her life wasn't about what she owned, but about how much love she gave-and she gave it freely.
Fun was not optional for Deb-it was essential. With family and friends, she loved side-by-siding the trails and bar-hopping around Minong, floating around or sitting on her dock at Gilmore Lake with a rum and diet in hand, soaking in the sun and in the moment. She loved walking her dogs every day, traveling near and far, making new friends wherever she went, and finding reasons to be happy no matter where she was. Deb truly loved life, and she loved enjoying every single moment of it.
More than anything, Deb loved people. She had a rare gift for lifting spirits, helping others, and making everyone feel seen, welcome, and cared for. Her life was a beautiful reminder that love, kindness, and a little bit of fun can go a very long way.
Deb lives on in the hearts of the many who loved her dearly: her daughter, Vanessa Richards; her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Taylor Martin; and her cherished grandchildren, Paityn, Harper, and Weston, who brought her endless happiness and pride. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law and best friends, Linden and Mary Pat Marty; nieces and nephews Jessica, Brian, and Katie and their families; brother Mark Marty, sister Mary Heldman, her beloved Minong community; and the many friends and extended family whose lives were made brighter by her love.
Deb Martin will be remembered for her happy spirit, her tireless work ethic, her contagious laugh, and her unwavering belief that life is better when it's filled with love and fun. Her legacy is one of generosity, joy, and a heart that never stopped giving.
And somewhere-on a sunny dock, trail, or open road-Deb is still having fun, still spreading love, and still reminding us all to live like today truly matters.
