A Celebration of Life Service will be at 1 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Kok Funeral Home, 7676 80th Street S.; Cottage Grove, MN with a visitation beginning at 12 PM for an hour prior to the service.
Doug was born May 25, 1961 to Herbert and Helen (nee Swanson) Nelson in Mora, MN. Doug dedicated his life to God and to others. He would root for the underdog and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Doug was a proud long-time employee of Ford. He began his career with Lakeland Ford, moving to Boyer Ford where he would spend many years as a parts salesman and ending his career with Tousley Ford. He would settle his growing family in the suburb of Cottage Grove where he raised his pride and joy, his four daughters. Whether it was family dinners, movie nights, taking them for ice cream or to the park or days at the beach, Doug was a girl dad through and through. He loved being outdoors taking his grandchildren fishing, hosting backyard BBQ’s or enjoying the summer sun relaxing on his patio. He was known as a motorhead. He loved vehicle restoration, building his motorcycle or attending swap meets, Back to the 50’s, monster trucks shows or car races with his family. Doug would make friends wherever he went whether it was with his friendly wave, his witty charm, gentle kindness or big heart, he always wanted to make others feel special.
Doug is survived by his wife Kathleen “Katie”, his daughters, Heather (Flynt), Nicki (Paul), Shawna (Eric), Bre (Willie), sister Diane, grandchildren Alexis, Ashlyn, Caden, Violet, Owen, Max, Theo and Maia, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert Nelson and Helen Walton.
