David George Jones Sr.

David (Dave) George Jones, Sr, 85, of Allentown, died at Bryn Mawr Hospital, Tuesday, November 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Susan Moore Jones and celebrated 61 years of marriage this past October. Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late David A. and Gertrude (Fisher) Jones.
David graduated from Penn State University in 1961 and later from Jefferson Medical College in 1965. He interned at St. Luke's in Bethlehem, PA. and was a resident in ophthalmology at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.
David proudly served his country in the Navy as a Medical Officer at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Afterward, he returned to Allentown, PA, where he practiced ophthalmology until past his 79th birthday.
He was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Allentown. Dave was a lifelong fan of Penn State sports. He especially loved football, a passion that began by helping his father, also a Penn State alum, recruit players in the Scranton area.
Dave and Sue met at Lake Waynewood in the Poconos, where they and their family continued to spend their summers.
Surviving along with his wife, Sue, are his children: daughter Kathryn (Katie) Jones and her husband Daniel Schreibman, daughter Margaret (Molly) Jones Kenyon and her husband Thomas Kenyon, son David George Jones, Jr. and his wife Emily Abernathy-Jones, daughter Gwyneth (Gwyn) Jones; grandchildren Jane and Clara Schreibman, Catherine, Caroline, Nathaniel (Nat), and Eleanor (Nora) Kenyon, India and Edith (Edie) Jones, and Silas and Eliza Jones Gorsky; and sister Marian Jones Butcher her husband Dennis Butcher.
David's family will be hosting a reception at Luther Crest on Saturday, November 29th, 2025, from 12-3pm in Crest Hall, 800 Hausman Road, Allentown, PA 18104. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
