David Alfred Kallander, 96, of Norway, Maine (formerly of Harrison, ME and Duxbury, MA), died peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025. The oldest of five children, David was born on March 14, 1929, in Framingham, MA, to Ernest and Anna Kallander. His early childhood was spent in Framingham. In 1945, his parents moved the family to a small farm in Southboro, MA. David and his brothers pedaled vegetables raised on the farm throughout the community.

David was gifted with a bright mind and musical talent, both of which he carried to his last days. He graduated from MIT in 1951 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He received a deferment through Air Force ROTC and on graduation from MIT was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve. Three months later he was called to active duty and assigned as a Research and Development Officer at the Rome Air Development Center in Rome, NY, where he worked on advanced coatings for radomes and antennas. He left Rome in 1954 to join Fairchild Guided Missiles Division on Long Island, NY.

David enjoyed a varied career at several companies. He was at the forefront of semiconductor development at General Electric, Motorola, Texas Instruments, and Honeywell. As the computer revolution took hold, he earned a master's degree in computer science at Northeastern University. He retired from Raytheon Corporation where he was involved in guided missile systems. David was a licensed Professional Engineer in New York and Connecticut.

He is survived by Anne (Whittaker), his loving wife of 55 years, sister Susan Kallander of West Brookfield, MA, sons Barry Kallander of Denmark, ME, and Chris Kallander of Hardeeville, SC, and daughters Cheryl (Grau) of Chatham, MA, Julie Levesque of Stafford, VA, and Nancy Kallander of Charlottesville, VA. David has 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his mother and father; brothers John, Peter, and Ernest Jr.; first wife Barbara Gaskill, and sons James Kallander, Thomas Kallander, and Ted Kallander.

David was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman. After retiring from Raytheon in 1990, he and Anne traveled the USA in their travel trailer, and eventually spent the Maine winters in Arizona and summers in Harrison, ME. David loved Arizona, and continued wintering there through his 96th birthday.

A memorial service will be held at the Denmark Congregational Church in Denmark, ME, on October 11, 2025, at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial offerings be sent to The Hospice House at Andwell Health Partners, 15 Strawberry Avenue, Lewiston, ME 04240.
