David Kling Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 30, 2026.
David Patrick Kling, 62, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026, at Kingston Residence of Vermilion after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. He faced his illness with strength, determination, and grace, fighting bravely until the very end.

Born on March 17, 1964, David was the beloved son of the late Werner Lothar Kling and Patricia Ann (Kroft) Kling. He was a 1982 Sandusky High School graduate and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree.

David shared a beautiful life with his loving husband, Scott Phillips. The two met on November 11, 2012, and were united in marriage on July 26, 2016. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and deep companionship.

David dedicated many years to his career as a pharmacist, working at The Pharm and Rite Aid before concluding his professional journey at Bassetts Pharmacy, where he retired. He took pride in helping others and was respected for his knowledge and care.

Outside of his work, David found joy in the simple and creative pleasures of life. He loved working outdoors, especially landscaping and tending to his yard. He had a unique talent for crafting lamps from industrial materials, turning the ordinary into something extraordinary. A gifted painter, his artwork will remain a treasured reminder of his creativity and spirit.

David was known for his sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor. He had a knack for delivering quick one-liners that brought laughter to those around him.

His pride and joy were his beloved cats, Georgie Snickers and Kit Kat, and he always held a special place in his heart for his first cat, Tyrone Beasley.

He is survived by his devoted husband, Scott Phillips of Huron, Ohio; his siblings, Kay Kling of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, Amy Wangler of Huron, Ohio, Mark (Susan) Kling of Sandusky, Ohio; and his niece, Hannah Kling of Lakewood, Ohio.

In honoring David's wishes, cremation will take place. There will be no formal service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to remember and honor his life.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Erie County, 505 E. Perkins Ave. Sandusky, OH 44870 or to the Erie County Humane Society, 1911 Superior St. Sandusky, OH 44870.

David will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his love, creativity, humor, and the joy he brought to all around him.
