Father, husband, brother, uncle; David George Kok, age 86, passed away at Apple Valley Village Care Center, on October 6, 2025.
David was born on October 17, 1938 in Long Prairie, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended Long Prairie High School. He lived with his parents and siblings on Lake Latimer at the Lakeside Dairy farm, and enjoyed hunting and fishing while growing up. David wed Barbara Reichert on August 1, 1964 at St. Mary's church in Long Prairie. He farmed there for a few years, until his back problems pushed him to pursue a new career in teaching.
David attended St. Cloud State University, where he graduated in three years with a bachelor's degree in Biology. During this time, he lived in an apartment in the dormitory with his wife and 2 year old daughter, Kate. After graduating, they moved back to David's family farm on Lake Latimer, and he taught Biology at Upsala junior high school. After several years of teaching, Dave went back to full-time farming, and continued to raise two children, Kate and Andy, with his wife.
Dave and Barb moved to Hopkins, Minnesota in 1986, where they lived for more than 30 years with several dogs and two cats. Dave loved reading and working on the yard when he wasn't working for the Hopkins Parks Department. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Barb. They had many adventures in China, Guatemala, Alaska, Europe, Greece, and many places in the US.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara of 61 years; his parents, Helen Catherine and Henry Anthony Kok; his brothers and sisters, Gary (Helen), Irene (Bill), Dee, Ken (Timmy), and Alan. He is survived by his two children, Kate (Roger), and Andrew (Terri); many nieces and nephews; 5 grandchildren Carson, Nolan, Hazel, Elise and Mitch; and a great grandchild, James.
Plans for funeral services are pending. Please return to this website- Bierman, Benson & Langehough Funeral Home- for details to be announced.
A memorial will also be held in Spring 2026 in Long Prairie for both David and Barbara Kok, with grave visitation in Long Prairie St. Mary's Cemetery. Date and Time TBD.
