David S. LaFontaine, Sr., 64, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Southington, CT on April 20, 1960, son of the late Henry and Marilyn (Leavitt) LaFontaine, he was raised in East Hartford and was a graduate of Cheney Technical High School in Manchester, where he studied to be an automotive mechanic.
David worked as a mechanic for most of his career at Monro Muffler and Brake, managing several locations around the State of Connecticut. He later worked as a security guard for Murphy Security in Hartford, spending most of his time at State of Connecticut buildings including the Village for Children and Families in Hartford. A hard-working man throughout his life, David also delivered newspapers after his retirement for the Journal Inquirer.
A Manchester resident for most of his life, David served as a Manchester Volunteer Fireman in the 1990's. He was also a certified NRA Firearms Instructor and enjoyed target shooting in his free time. David had a motorcycle for many years and enjoyed taking rides around Connecticut and Massachusetts.
David attended services at the First Congregational Church of East Hartford.
Most of all, David will be remembered for his dedication to his family, especially his four children. He was very patriotic and loved eagles and American flags. He was dedicated to lifelong learning and returned to school online as an adult earning his associate's degree in criminal justice from Colorado Technical University.
He leaves four children, Candice Sheffield and her husband Jason of Vernon, Amanda Kennedy and her husband Richard of Manchester, David LaFontaine, Jr. of Manchester, and Nikole Markie of Pennsylvania; a grandson, Aiden Kennedy of Manchester; a brother, Gary LaFontaine of Coventry; and two nephews, John LaFontaine and his wife Melissa of Stafford Springs, and Randy LaFontaine and his wife Amber of Florida.
His family will receive friends on Friday, November 8, 4-5 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m., at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, (Route 83), Vernon, CT. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
