Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wiley Funeral Home - Granbury on Dec. 11, 2025.
David John Leake, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning, December 6, 2025, at his home in
Granbury, Texas. He was in his favorite place in the house, his office, where he was preparing to watch a Formula One race which was one of his great joys.
David was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. If you were a part of David's life, you knew he was someone you could count on without hesitation.
David was born on December 14, 1949, in Dartford, Kent, England. He was adopted as an infant by John and Joan Leake. He spent his childhood in England and Australia. He came to the United States in 1980 and became a U.S. citizen in 2013. His passion for structural and design engineering lead him to become the owner of EGS Systems, where he poured his talent into work he truly loved.
In 1982 David met Nena Duplantis who was the love of his life. David and Nena got married on October 4, 1986 in Houston, Texas. Together they built a warm, loving home with their two children, Jonathan and Jaimie. For many years they lived in Katy, Texas where Jonathan and Jaimie attended school. They eventually moved to Granbury to be near their daughter and grandchildren. In recent years, David learned about his biological family and in 2022 he and Nena travelled to England where he was able to meet his birth mother, Barbara Vinall, before she passed away in 2025. During that trip he met his three birth sisters and learned more about a brother who died in 2019. David was profoundly happy to be welcomed into the family he never knew he had, and he cherished getting to know them these past few years. David was passionate about sports cars, Formula One racing, and anything that involved design and precision. He also enjoyed history, especially the history of his native England. David loved his life in America, but he never lost his British accent.
Family and friends will remember David for his warm personality, unique charm and his love for welcoming friends into his home. For many years David and Nena have hosted an annual Crawfish Boil on Good Friday where David would mix his signature Pimm's cocktails and serve freshly baked hot cross buns which was a talent he learned from his adoptive father.
David is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Nena; his son, Jonathan and wife, Marina and their son, Nathaniel; and his daughter, Jaimie and her children, Collins and Brand. He is also survived by his adopted sister, Mary Jane Leake and his biological sisters, Christine and husband Martin Cherry; Jackie and husband Peter Townshend; Debbie and husband Jeff Saward. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his biological brother.
A memorial visitation with family will be held from 10–11 A.M., on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Wiley Funeral Center, 420 Highway 377 East in Granbury. A celebration of David's life will follow at 11 A.M.
