David Loe Obituary

Visit the O'Connell Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - River Falls website to view the full obituary.

David Mark Loe (71) was born August 17, 1954, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Emil and Elaine Loe (Nordell). David passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the morning of February 25th, 2026. He had been on chemotherapy for 4 years due to liver cancer and dealt with liver cirrhosis, which is what he passed away from.

David graduated from Memorial High School in 1972 and then was certified in welding from the local tech. David married Mary Schoettle (Claflin) March 13, 1973, and had two children Mark and Amy. They divorced after a few years, and he later married Theresa Modl. Together they moved to Austin, MN, where he worked at Hormel Foods. David and Theresa later divorced, and he remained in Austin until 2002. He then moved to Browerville, MN where he built his forever home with family. He had resided there until a couple months prior to his passing. David worked at Dan’s Prize which was also owned by Hormel Foods. He retired at age 62 and still did some side jobs driving truck for a local company out of Motley, MN and loved that very much. Due to his health, he stopped trucking 3 years ago.

David has been an avid fisherman, hunter, motorcyclist, and billiard player. He has passed his love of all four sports to his children and grandchildren. David was very close to his family and was constantly making trips to camp, cheering on the grandkids in pool, racing, basketball, and tennis. David was blessed to go on hundreds of fishing trips with family and friends over the years. Recently he has been on a few cruises to some tropical islands and Alaska this past September. He has been to Canada fishing which meant the world to him. Dave has been able to live on his own until a couple months ago thanks to his special friends Jim and Margie Potter. He loved to tinker in the garage, weld projects, work on his boat, macrame plant holders, and recently had a small green house he was proud of where he grew his special herb.

Dave was still best friends with many people from his childhood years; you know who you are!!! David remained great friends with Mary, his first wife, and attended all family functions even after the divorce almost 50 years ago. David had an amazing family that was focused on quality time and sharing great memories. Anyone who knew David has a story or a joke they know from him. There was nothing you could say bad about Dave; he was one of the good guys and would help anyone if able.

David was predeceased by his parents, brother Greg, sister Janelle, and nephew Ben. He also had two great dogs he loved dearly, Thunder and Angel. David also lost a longtime girlfriend, Diane, of 15 years to liver cirrhosis. Survivors include son Mark (Michelle) Loe of Eau Claire, WI, and their children Casey, Jarrett (Rhyan), and Jack. Daughter Amy (Ryan) Elit of River Falls, WI and their children Jacob Elit and James (Amanda) Elit, and great grandchildren Berkley and Dawson.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join us 3pm -10pm on May 2, 2026, in Eau Claire, WI at the Brickyard Pub at 2233 Birch St. Eau Claire, WI 54703. This was also known as the Labor Temple decades ago and was where David loved to bartend and play pool. We will provide dinner and snacks. There are pool tables, darts, shuffleboard, slots and great company. Dave didn’t want anything fancy, just the ones he loved in one place celebrating his life and remembering the good times. Thanks to all who have made his life what it was, he was very happy and proud of you all!
