David Orlando Lopez Jr. passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on October 3, 2024, after a long battle with illness in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on October 14, 1985, David's life was one marked by courage, humor, and an unwavering love for his family.
David was also known as Orlandito, Chatito, Junior, and Sooner. His favorite names, which was music to his ears, was when he would hear his sons call him "Daddy" and his mother call him "Papacito".
David grew up in Alice, Texas and attended the Alice Independent School District. He graduated from Alice High School, class of 2004, and during his high school years he played football wearing Jersey number 52. He was known for his meticulous nature and his organizational skills and his home was a testament to his neatness.
A man of many interests, David was the ultimate fan of the Alice Coyotes football and baseball teams, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Yankees. Dallas Cowboys game days consisted of David getting dressed in his jersey, even if it meant watching the game from home, and enjoying pizza and snacks.
He found joy in the simple pleasures of life like fishing, barbecuing (even if the meat ended up charred more than once), and relishing in family gatherings. He also couldn't wait for the spooky festivities of Halloween, his favorite holiday.
Above all, David's world revolved around his two sons, David Orlando Lopez III and Daniel Elijah Lopez. He cherished every moment spent with them, eagerly awaiting weekends filled with games, jokes, laughter, and the simple joy of holding his precious boys close. His love for his sons was a beacon of light that shone even during the toughest times.
For fifteen years, David bravely battled an illness that tested his strength and resolve. Through it all, he never lost his faith, remaining a pillar of courage and humor to those around him. His ability to laugh in the face of adversity and to remain loving despite the challenges he faced was nothing short of inspirational.
David was preceded in death by his father, David Orlando Lopez Sr.; his paternal grandfather, Alejandro Lopez Sr.; and his uncle, Carlos Ivan Lopez Sr. He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly, including his sons, David Orlando Lopez III and Daniel Elijah Lopez; his mother, Gloria Ann Lopez; sisters, Amanda Lynn Lopez (Arturo Guzman Jr) and Priscilla Ann Lopez (Emmanuel Olivarez); maternal grandmother, Lucy Lopez; paternal grandmother, Amparo Lopez; the mother of his children, Linda Madrigal; and his cherished nieces and nephews, JoeDavid, Aubrey, Marcos, Mia, Briella, Isabella, Brianne, and Emmanuel Jr.
David is also survived by his special aunts and uncles who were always very attentive to his healthcare needs, MaryLou Garcia, Elizabeth Munoz, Alicia (Jose) Medina, Alejandro (Estella) Lopez Jr., and Gilbert (Katie) Garza. His numerous cousins, extended family, and dear friends will fondly remember his laughter, love, and the joy he brought to their lives.
David Orlando Lopez Jr. was a man of courage, humor, and love. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched and the lessons of strength and joy he imparted will continue to inspire.
David's family will receive condolences on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Trevino Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St., from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. My first memory of my father, David, was whenever we stayed the weekend. Everyday in the morning, he would wake me up, just me, and ask me what I wanted everyday. He would always know what my brother wanted.
