David Ervin Lovely

David Ervin Lovely, affectionately known to all who knew him as Davie, embarked on his final
adventure on October 8, 2025, in the city of Detroit, MI, after a life filled with joy, laughter, and
an unwavering devotion to his family. Born in Lansing, MI, on November 20, 1968, Dave's life
was a testament to love, resilience, and the kind of humor that could light up even the
gloomiest Michigan winter.
Dave's journey from the playful corridors of Holt High School, where he graduated in 1987, to
the bustling construction sites where he honed his craft, was as much a tale of passion as it
was of perseverance. He was a man who found his calling early, helping his father, followed by
a lifelong commitment to building not just structures but also relationships. His laughter was
the cornerstone of every project, much like the beloved homes and buildings he helped raise
from blueprints to reality.
The love story that Dave wrote with his wife, Jacqueline (Brown) Lovely, was one for the ages, a
partnership that nurtured a beautiful family, including his daughters Chelsea Jean, Riley,
Izabella, and Alice, and his son, David Ervin Lovely III. His family was the scaffolding of his
existence, each member a beam of support and love.
His legacy will be carried on by his mother, Patsy, his sisters Juanita (Russ) Kalso, Cheri (Doug)
Coon, and Treesa (Bill) Lovely, as well as by his spirited grandson, Brayden. Dave was
predeceased by his father, David Lovely and his nephew Bryon Ervin who no doubt greeted
him with a loud cheer! "Hail to the Victors Valiant" and with open arms and a well-deserved pat
on the back for a life well-lived.
Dave's spiritual compass guided him through life, often reminding those he loved that "The
best is yet to come," a mantra that perfectly captured his eternal optimism. He was a force of
nature, funny, generous, and courageous, and he brought light and laughter wherever he went.
His love for sports was legendary – if you couldn't find Dave on weekends, it was a safe bet he
was cheering on the U of M Wolverines or the Detroit Lions, living every high and low of the
game as if he were on the field himself.
Karaoke nights won't be the same without Dave's renditions of "Crazy" and "I Put Your Picture
Away," performances that were known to steal the show and capture hearts. His love for
singing was only matched by his love for his community. Dave was the kind of man who, when
he found a good thing, couldn't wait to share it with others. He was a friend to all and a
stranger to none.
Dave reminds us of a quote by the late, great Robin Williams, "You're only given a little spark of
madness. You mustn't lose it." Indeed, Dave never lost his spark. His sense of humor, a blend
of warmth and mischievous charm, was an echo of the kindness and generosity that defined
his soul.
As we bid farewell to Dave, let us remember that the legacy of laughter and love he left behind
will forever illuminate the lives he touched. David Ervin Lovely, the man with a heart as wide as
Michigan and a spirit as indomitable as its people, leaves behind a world that is infinitely better
for his presence. He will be profoundly missed, fondly remembered, and always cherished.
