PALMYRA: David M. MacDuff, 82, passed away peacefully on Dec. 4, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn MacDuff; children Michael (Tammy Bollinger) MacDuff, James (Tamara) MacDuff, and Jonell Pitts; grandchildren, Amanda Perry, Benjamin Short, Nicholas MacDuff, Emily MacDuff, Heather (Brian) Ryan, and Zeke Pitts; great-grandchildren, Jacoby, Juno, Kairi, Johnathan and James; sister, Sandra Neale; sister-in-law, Joyce MacDuff; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
David was predeceased by his wife of 24 years, Judy MacDuff, as well as his brother, James MacDuff, and his granddaughter, Emily Short.
The youngest of three siblings, David was a lifelong Palmyra resident and member of the Palmyra-Macedon class of 1960. He survived polio as a child, and never let its lingering effects impact his work or hobbies. He enjoyed a long career as an accountant at Victor Insulators and, more recently, worked for several years at Santelli Lumber in Palmyra where he enjoyed the comradery of coworkers and customers.
He and Kathryn married in 1989, blending their two families. They regarded one another's children as their own, and, as the family expanded, greatly enjoyed the company of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
David relished sunny days on the golf course, camping trips with his young family, an occasional cold beer, and being the master of the grill at family picnics. Given his technical savvy, he was the family's computer adviser, fixer and builder. He also loved to tinker with gas-powered engines and had a special affinity for rebuilding antique riding lawnmowers. In his younger days, he was quite the musician, playing saxophone and keyboard in a band. He was always interested in current events, strongly opinionated (sometimes frustratingly so), and possessed a redemptive quick wit. He will be sorely missed.
Family and friends are invited to call from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at the Robert L. Yost Funeral Home, Inc., 123 W. Main St., Palmyra, N.Y. A memorial service will immediately follow at the same location. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12.
Donations in his memory may be directed to the American Lung Association, 1595 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, N.Y., 14620.
