David Starling MacMillan, age 84, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, October 6, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, on November 15, 1940, David was the son of the late Starling and Helen (Messerschmidt) MacMillan. He grew up alongside his older sister, Carolyn, and younger brother, Richard.
A proud graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1959, David went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force. After his service, he married Elaine (Wish), with whom he shared 19 wonderful years until her passing. Together, they raised three children: David II (Kaitlyn), Jill (Joe Campoy), and Lisa (CJ Harris). David was a faithful husband, father and provider.
Throughout his life, David wore many hats. He worked at Massillon Steel Castings and spent years as a part-time locksmith before becoming a full-time locksmith for Akron Metropolitan Housing, where he remained until retirement. Later in his career, David worked as a licensed massage therapist.
David’s faith was important to his life; he received Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord in his younger years and truly loved God’s Word, The Holy Bible. He was a gentle man with a great sense of humor and a love for dancing.
David is survived by his brother Richard, his three children, 18 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew him.
