David Mars Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose & Hughes Funeral Home on Dec. 9, 2025.
David H. Mars, 69, of the Town of Florida, NY, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born in Amsterdam, NY, on August 1st, 1956. He was the son of the late Ruth (Starke) and Henry G. Mars.

He was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class

of 1975. He went on to attend Siena College in Loudonville, NY.

David was an integral part of the Amsterdam Rams Baseball team, where he accomplished a 53-game record-breaking winning streak while playing for Brian Mee's Rams from 1973-1975. During his time with the Rams, he accomplished a career average of .390 as a hitter. He was the only player to play in every game during the 1973-75 timeframe. He was a member of three Class A baseball title teams and won two Section 2 titles while in High School. His accomplishments on the field for Amsterdam Baseball are still being talked about in the area today. After his high school baseball career, he then went on to play more baseball in College for the Siena Saints in Loudonville, NY. In 2016, Dave was elected to the Amsterdam Mohawks Baseball Hall of Fame.

Dave was the proud owner of Flying W Caps Inc. in Rotterdam, NY.

Dave enjoyed the outdoors, puttering around the garden growing vegetables and flowers, and being creative with his hands. He especially loved to spend time with his family and in teaching his grandchildren future life skills. And of course, rooting for his favorite baseball team, the Yankees.

He is survived by his loving partner of 25 years, Cindy Krywulych of the Town of Florida, and his children, Matthew (La Dona) Mars of Amsterdam, Kristin (John) Sheehy of the Town of Florida, and his stepson, Michael (Brittany) Krywulych. His grandchildren are Matthew. Webster, Sabrina Webster, Keegan Krywulych, River Krywulych, and awaiting the birth of baby Sheehy in February 2026.

He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Judith (Tony) Tylutki.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 12:00 Noon at the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, with Hospice Chaplain h Wesley Joseph presiding. A calling hour will precede the service on Saturday from 11:00 to 12:00 Noon at the funeral home.
