David C. Martin

David C. Martin, 82, passed away on Monday, July 14th, 2025, at Garden Spot Village. Born in Easton, David was the son of the late Joseph & Mary (Dicker) Martin, and the loving husband of Marcia L. (Hammel) Martin.

David’s educational journey began at Notre Dame High School, followed by undergraduate studies at Millersville University, culminating in earning a master’s degree from the same institution. David believed deeply in the power of education, and his passion for learning inspired those around him.

David devoted much of his career to teaching at Garden Spot High School, where his commitment to education was evidenced not only through his teaching but also by his role as the technical director of the arts. He tirelessly managed the sets, lighting, and technical needs for countless productions, shaping the experiences of aspiring young artists until his retirement.

Beyond his professional endeavors, David took immense pride in his community service. He spent many hours volunteering at the Ephrata Cloister, where he demonstrated the art of printing, enriching the public's knowledge of history and craftsmanship. His dedication to preservation and education extended to his work on the renovation of the Fox Fire House, a historic 19th-century Swiss German bank house located at Furnace Hills Girl Scout Camp. Here, he designed and built a historically accurate springhouse and bakehouse, providing a unique retreat for both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts to immerse themselves in a bygone era.

David's contributions to local governance were equally commendable; he served on the Ephrata Zoning Board for many years, where his insight and dedication aided in making thoughtful decisions for the community's future. As a co-founder of the Ephrata ACT Area Community Theater, he played an instrumental role in establishing a nonprofit live theater organization that has enriched the cultural landscape for over a decade, with performances taking place at various venues including the Mountain Springs Hotel and the VFW. David C. Martin's legacy is that of a man who devoted his life to education, the arts, and community service. His enthusiastic spirit and commitment to nurturing the talents of others will forever resonate within the hearts and minds of those who knew him.

David is survived by two daughters, Wendy (Jeffrey) Bryden of Moose Pass, Alaska & Jane (John) Baker of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Cody, Casey, & Alexis; and a brother, Joseph Martin of Camphill. David is predeceased by two brothers, James Martin and Robert Martin.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, August 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of life mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Mother of Perpetual Help; 320 Church Ave, Ephrata, PA 17522.
