David Martinson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haven of Rest Funeral Home, Cemetery, Crematory - Gig Harbor on Dec. 31, 2025.
David (Dave) Carroll Martinson, 74, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025. He was born in Seattle on April 10, 1951 and was brother to 3 siblings, Ann (Bob), Dan (Donna) and Paul. He spoke fondly of his high school years playing football and running around with a solid group of friends (some of whom he still spent time with). He met Mary Ann in 1973 and got married on May 27, 1974. He and Mary Ann were married for over 51 wonderful years and together raised their two children, Kelly Hennessey (Seth) and Jeff Martinson (Michelle) in University Place. Once they were empty nesters, they made the decision to move to Fox Island to be able to eventually retire and enjoy life with a view of the water and Mt. Rainier. Dave spent over 20 years working for MacDonald Miller, retiring in 2015. He enjoyed his career there having met many great people, some of whom became camping friends. Dave eventually became Papa to 5 grandchildren, Natalie, Alistair, Gillian, Cooper and Bennett, who were his pride and joy. He was a very proud and devoted family man, making time to coach sports teams, be involved in Indian Guides at the YMCA as Grinning Bear, and attend MANY games and band concerts. He was known by all for his kindness, compassion, and loving nature as well as a sharp sense of humor and contagious laugh. He and Mary Ann enjoyed traveling and made time for cruises, road trips and a few trips to Hawaii. They also were avid campers and, having gone through various travel trailers over time, have enjoyed a robust camping career with other family and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, John & Jessie, and his brother, Paul. Dave figured out the secret to life - a cold drink, chips & Martinson salsa and a good book while taking in the view from his deck. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him but his spirit will endure because of all the lives he touched.
