David McDowell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Park Funeral Home - Main Chapel on Jan. 7, 2026.
David G. McDowell, age 90, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Born in Springfield, IL on January 23, 1935, he was the son of George & Mary Jane McDowell, who preceded him in death. He had one younger sister, Mary Judith, who also preceded him in death. He was married for 61 years to Mary Ann Keilmann McDowell, who preceded him in death in Nov. 2022. They have two sons: Andrew of Alpharetta, GA, and Samuel of Carlsbad, NM. They have two grandchildren living in England. Between them are numerous nieces and nephews.

Dave attended public schools in Springfield, IL while Ann attended public schools in Mineola, N.Y. Both earned memberships in the National Honor Society. Dave also became a member of the Illinois Sports Hall of Fame. He attended Stetson University where he earned a degree in Economics and was captain of the baseball team. Ann graduated from Fla. Southern University cum laude.

Dave's working career was marked by 37 years in the paper industry, retiring as V/P of Sales & Marketing of a Worldwide Paper & Packaging Corporation. Ann was a homemaker and worked for a time as a world travel agent. They retired to Hilton Head, SC, after making numerous business-related moves. Dave's position required extensive travel averaging 150,000 miles/yr.

They enjoyed a wide social life, but their mutual passion was their love of Christ. Both served numerous ministries over their years together. They focused on Stephen Ministry, forming 5 chapters, including Lanier Village Estates, over a 21-year period. Dave also taught Bible Study classes for over 25 years. Family was important, with Ann managing the major responsibilities through 13 corporate-related moves.

Their retirement to H.H. was made even more enjoyable by opportunities to travel, creating many pleasant memories and friendships. Dave wishes to express his gratitude for the many friends over the years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Lanier Village Estates Chapel at 2:00 PM. 4000 Village View Dr., Gainesville, GA 30506. Flowers are welcome.

Memorial Park Funeral Home, 2030 Memorial Park Drive, Gainesville, Georgia 30504 is in charge of the arrangements.
