David Lee McLean, 69, passed away peacefully at home on his farm on February 13, 2025 surrounded his wife and loved ones. David was born January 31, 1956, in Joplin to the late Franklin McLean and Mary Watkins (McLean).
David attended school in Carl Junction. David and the school days didn't always get along. In the 9th grade, David decided to quit school and follow his family's devotion to roofing, before deciding to head out on his own. In 1976, he started Guarantee Roofing, Inc. and became a very successful business owner that was well known to the construction industry and community. His legacy will continue to live on with Guarantee Roofing, Inc.
David had many passions and hobbies. You could find him daily on his farm, working with his cows (which he referred to as his babies). The cows would watch for his red truck coming down the lane at the end of the workday knowing it was feeding time. David also had a passion for music. He loved to play his guitar and sing. He also enjoyed reading. In the summertime, you would find him riding his motorcycle on any pretty day. He loved to travel. Florida became his favorite spot. He enjoyed fishing with his friends and having a good time. On any given Wednesday, Friday or Saturday, you could always find him at his favorite little spot in Seneca "Happy Jacks Tavern" playing pool with his buddies.
David always had a dedication for the Lord and became a Pastor in 1990. He started his own church "Calvary Apostolic Church" in 1991 in Joplin. Due to life challenges, David resigned from the church in 2004. David never lost his love for preaching. Faithfully, every Sunday, David always got up early to listen to a sermon on tv. He would still give a good sermon as well and play a gospel song or two on his guitar and sing to anyone who showed up at the house on Sundays.
David had an urge to help people. He would help anyone in need. He was a good listener and always had the wisdom and knowledge to guide people in a better direction. David never looked down on anyone or critiqued them. His famous saying was, there is only one person who could judge people, and the Lord always looks upon the heart. He was a best friend to many.
David loved his family and friends fiercely. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, bonus father and grandfather. He was known as Pa to the older grandkids and Pappy to the younger ones. He will be deeply missed by anyone that knew him.
David met his best friend and soul mate, Tabitha Bettes in 2010. They were married on December 10, 2022. They spent all their time together even in the office at Guarantee Roofing, Inc. Where you would see one, you would always see the other. Spending time together was definitely a priority.
David is survived by his wife, Tabitha McLean. Children: Stephanie Corral (Dan), Franklin (Ben) McLean, Jeremy McLean, Julie McLean, Matthew Shively (Avery), and Nathan Rickey (Ayden Tayler).
Siblings: Sally Brown (Steve), Frank McLean (Vicki), Brenda Sampson, Linda Cantrell and cousin Mike McLean.
10 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren
