Published by Heritage Memory Mortuary - Prescott on May 1, 2014.
David Loomis McMorris, MD, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, physician and friend went to be with his Heavenly Father on May1, 2014. David, age 88, was born December 3, 1925 to Reverend John W. and Irene L. McMorris in New Oxford, PA. The family moved many times during his childhood as was customary in the Methodist Church. After graduating from Hollidaysburg High School in 1942, David worked as an aircraft mechanic until he enlisted in the army at age 18. He served as a demolition specialist in the 542nd Paratroop Infantry Battalion stationed at Fort Benning and later the Airborne Center Training Detachment at Fort Mackall where he was a member of the Airborne Firepower and Operations Demonstration Team. Following WWII, David attended Gettysburg College where he met Carol M. Stroehmann. They were married June 10, 1950 in Williamsport, PA. David graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1954 and ultimately completed his training in Internal Medicine at The University of Michigan in 1958. The family then moved back to Williamsport where he practiced Internal Medicine and Nuclear Medicine for 20 years before relocating to Prescott, AZ. Upon retiring in 1990, he and Carol spent the summers on the family farm in PA and winters in Prescott, AZ. David was an active member of St Mark's Lutheran Church in Williamsport, PA and American Lutheran Church in Prescott, AZ. He was an avid outdoorsman, voracious reader of military history and enjoyed singing barbershop in his retirement. David was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, John Paul McMorris who passed away in 1938. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol S. McMorris, children Karen M. Smethers, Scott D. McMorris, Marc S. (Jan) McMorris, Kristen L. McMorris, and Kelly M. (Dale) Frank. He was Opa to his 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. David will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, friends and patients. We will always remember his bright smile and those sparkling blue eyes. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at The Margaret T. Morris Center for their dedication to caring for Dad during his time there and the Hospice Family Care Inpatient Unit for their excellent care and support for Dad in his final days. A memorial service will be scheduled in the future and internment will take place at the Prescott National Cemetery in Prescott, AZ. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Gardens and Horticultural Therapy Program at The Margaret T. Morris Center. Service entrusted to Heritage Memory Mortuary.
